July 14, 2022. 16.3 miles. 2700’ gain. 2900’ loss.
Today we were able to finally check off the California section of the PCT. We came to the sign indicating the California/Oregon border at 9am, about 4 miles into today’s hike. It’s at Mile 1691.7. This was cool because we have hiked the complete distance without any parts left out. No rides. No shortcuts.
We also reached Mile 1700 on the trail. Each 100-milepost has meant a lot to us with great experiences behind us.
Today’s section provided excellent views from high ridges in all directions with Mt Shasta constantly hovering over the southeast horizon.
We took our lunch break near Sheep Camp Spring. This was a fast flowing spring with a 3 inch pipe coming out of the slope. Nice shade trees and good cell service.
On to camp near a small stream. Campsite on old road 30 feet above the trail. Chili Mac for dinner. Shady, protected site. Will be a nice quiet evening.
Great to hear things are going well! 🤗. Diane & John
