Pacific Crest Trail – Hyatt Lake to S Brown Mt Shelter

July 18, 2022. 19.1 miles. Mile 1744 to Mile 1763. Gain 2774’. Loss 2614’.

Hyatt Lake Horse Camp, 5040’ to South Brown Mt Shelter, 5332’.

Long, uneventful day of hiking. Few views but did cover our longest part on this trip. Many road crossings.

Up at 4:30 and on the trail at 6:00. Nice and cool. Pleasant walking and did have one vista out over the Southern Oregon hills that made us feel small.

To the S Brown Mt Shelter just after 3:30. Good water from a hand pump. Shelter is pretty rough. Stove inside plus some left over supplies. Dirt floor with kerosene lamp. Not worth staying in.

Chicken and dumplings for dinner. Freeze dried but very tasty. Made more plans for the long waterless stretch coming up. I’ll share that in a future post.
