Got up at 5:30 to get going on our first full hiking day. Pop Tarts for breakfast as they were left over from yesterday. Down to one cup of coffee to begin each day.

On the trail at 7:00am. Much easy going for the first 6 miles. Not much elevation gain and views of Castle Crags.
After 2.5 hours, stopped for a break. Snack bars and water. The way would be tougher from here. Refilled our water from Disappearing Creek. Found it above ground just upstream. Our filter system is compromised by mold so we are drinking straight from springs.
Climbed 2100’ in 3 miles and much of it without shade. Took another break at 12:30 and 2/3 of the way up.
At a ridge notch, turned west and traversed to another spring. Filled extra bags for our dry camp ahead.
Found a nice tent site just off the trail with nice views. Talked with another hiker coming by. He says it’s supposed to rain tonight so we will prepare.
Mashed potatoes and mini-meatballs for dinner after happy hour hot drinks and snacks. (Cider). Turtles for dessert.
Found cell service here and ordered new filter to be delivered to next food drop. Game of cribbage and some reading.
Less elevation gain tomorrow but more mileage. Shoulders and feet are sore. Better tomorrow? We’ll see.
