Real Food and Bridge of Orchy

Saturday, Aug 2

Normal 6am wake up. Suitcases over to the office at 8am then off to the Real Food Cafe for breakfast. Vegetarian Scottish Breakfast: vegetarian haggis, veggie sausage, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, and steamed spinach.

Only 6 miles today over to Bridge of Orchy. Arrived around noon after climbing over the pass and traversing lots of sheep pastures. Check-in is not until 3pm so we went into the bar and ordered Haggis Hunter beer with Cullen Skink. CS is a very tasty smoked haddock chowder. We chatted with our server and decided we’d do some whisky tasting. (It’s “whisky” in Scotland; “whiskey” in Ireland and US.). We tasted ‘Classic Laddie’ and ‘GlenAllachie‘ along with an additional beer to chase them with. The GlenAllachie was a 15 yr single malt and we liked it the best.

Checked in and had a very nice room in an annex building. Quite new and up to date. Got showered and ready for dinner of Ricotta Lasagna and Haggis Croquettes. Also had a glass of Spanish Rioja wine. All that set us up for a pleasant evening in our room. We do find that they discourage opening windows of rooms in the Highlands because of the midges so often our room is quite warm.

Tomorrow we head out over the moor to Kingshouse.
