Traveling to Glasgow

Our flight via Icelandair was scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, July 25. Trevor drove us to the airport where we said good-bye a few hours ahead of our flight from Seattle to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Check in was smooth and our flight left on time. We were flying on an Airbus A321neo with about 185 other passengers. It was a good flight except for the fact that the row in which we sat had no window. Pretty weird!

We had pre-ordered food, and enjoyed dinner and breakfast for the following flight. Our lasagne, mozzarella/prosciutto salad, and lava cake was pretty good although it didn’t come on a nice tray. The red wine we had was a decent pour too.

After 7+ hours of flight, we landed at Keflavik International near Reykjavik. We allowed for no time to explore Iceland although our media screen on the plane was full of luring scenes of shopping, beautiful scenery, and several spa pools. That may come on a later trip.

Our lay-over was about 4 hours, and then we left about 30 min late because of connecting flights getting to Keflavik. The turkey breakfast bagel was better than I might have thought, accompanied with good coffee. Arrival time in Glasgow was 1:45pm local time, and 5:45am Pacific Time. A little confused by the BST here because it seemed it would be British Standard Time but no – BST stands for British Summer Time. They do daylight savings like we do.

We found the comfortable electric bus from the airport into downtown Glasgow. From Bothwell Street we carried and rolled our bags the 1/2 mile to Aparthotel Adagio Hotel less than a block from the River Clyde.

After checking in and getting hungry, we walked across the street to Hootenany’s Bar and Beer Garden for a pint and a Home Sweet Home burger accompanied by very yummy curly fries. One boring nitro beer was followed by a much tastier Munich Red from West Brewing. As we ate and drank, we nudged closer under the overhang to avoid some rain drops.

Upon finishing, we took a walk along the River Clyde before returning to the hotel about 6:45. A bit of a nap and later more sleep about 11:00. We hope we’ll be caught up on sleep by the morning.

  1. What an adventure you are having! Stop over in Iceland when you have another chance. I did that a few years ago (have a photo book of course!) on an IcelandAir flight to Denmark and we spent about 3 days seeing as much as we could. Lots of great tours to outer areas, and a wonderful walking tour for free around Reykjavik. Then back on the same ticket to complete our flight. Safe travels!! Nancy
